Orchestral Transcription Techniques of the Schoenberg Verein
applied to Symphony No. 2, ASRAEL, by Josef Suk
My doctoral thesis, A Study in Clarity: Josef Suk's ASRAEL Re-envisioned via Schoenberg, which I earned from Salford University, focuses on two main areas: the extraction and codification of the transcription techniques used by the Schoenberg Verein (1918-1921) and the application of those techniques to Symphony no. 2, 'Asrael', by Czech composer Josef Suk.

As a result of my research into the work of the Verein, I created the Verein-Karst Method of Transcription. This is the only arrangement methodology available which provides a template for crafting orchestral transcriptions similar in technique to those of Schoenberg and his students. By applying my methodology to Suk's Symphony no. 2, I created a transcription for thirteen instruments which faithfully upholds the integrity of the musical material and respects the authorship of the composer.
